I have this favorite spot. A spot were there is lots of wildlife (like the racoons whose tracks were left in the mud above) and it's quite and peaceful. It's a place where I take Sandi to run around off leash and splash around in dirty marsh water. My mother actually hates it when Sandi and I go here because we always come home covered in grey marsh muck (& it seems we always go there when she's visiting and she feels responsible for cleaning up after us. Oops.). In case you are unaware - grey marsh muck is impossible to get out of white carpet so always be certain to take advantage of your garden hose and rinse off outside before trying to sneak inside (so your visiting mother doesn't freak out).
This place used to be an old campground. There are still traces of it lingering in large trees throughout the area. You can tell exactly where the old campsites used to be because there are rusted metal lights attatched to the trees and old antennas randomly scatterd through the brush.
When we were kids, we used to be able to hear dirt bikes and 4-wheelers racing through the woods at the campground. Our yard had backed up the campground's land before our neighborhood grew into what it is today. The land that the campground once occupied was sold a few years ago. Since then, about 6 individual million-dollar houses have been constructed in it's place. There are about 20 vacant lots that have not been purchased yet. Another 142-acres have been set aside as a nature preserve. Included in that preserve is this spot where Sandi and I like to swim and relax on the bay.
There is a 'marina' there for the boats belonging to those who own land in the designated area. There is only ever 1 boat docked there.
Here are a few reasons as to why it's one of my favorite places:
Pretty neat. I bet it was awesome to camp here in the summers. It's like a little beachy luxury only a short distance from our house.
