After a dinner with friends this week, John was trying to show me a new way home on the backroads. Accidentaly, he led me past this house. Forgetting that we were trying to head home, I did a U-turn and pulled right in to do somet exploring. Tracy was more than willing to check it out. John 'stood guard'... which means he slept in the car while we walked around.
This abandoned home stands along rural Old Stage Road. There are only a few beautifully restored homes on this road. Most of the houses seems to be in some form of mild decay. This house had a for sale sign on the front porch. By the looks of it, I'd assume that the property is what is of value, not so much this house. The lot only had one large Pine (& a baby Sassafrass). The sand seemed perfect for growing little cacti. We really only have sand in this area - not much soil on the coast.
The main story of the house had super low ceilings. By low, I mean, probably only 6'2". My head was about 3 inches from the ceiling and I wasn't even wearing heels. By the looks of it, someone had been living here but just picked up (sort of) and left. There were lots of belongings scattered around the place.
This home had the best wallpaper collection I've ever seen! A vintage wallpaper fanatic's dream-come-true. There were strawberry prints, cherry prints, floral basket prints, and geometric designs covering every wall. The crystal door knobs were a nice touch, too. Crystal knobs and pulls are like sweet diamond accessories for a house, don't you think?
Once again, a pretty home left to rot. This house was the perfect size for a little starter home... if the ceilings were higher. 2 bedrooms, 1 large bath, a kitchen, living room, and family room.
After exploring we woke John up and headed back to our little neighborhood. Now I know a shortcut littered with abandoned homes.
