Stehli Silk Mill 2

In continuation from yesterday's post about the historic Stehli Silk Mill... more pictures! These photos are from Warehouse 2. I didn't spot many silk-related items in this warehouse nor warehouse 3, but the building itself was fantastic! You don't see character and charm in buildings like this anymore.

Alright, so maybe there were a few traces of someone once being in this building. Shoes and a bowtie positioned gracefully on an old antique desk...

Check out those buckling floors. It's like there was something growing under those floor boards. The floors were only like this in this one warehouse on the one floor. No where else. Strange?

The Mill is currently nestled off of Lancaster’s railroad tracks on over 11 acres of land. The 3-story warehouses tower over the surrounding residential suburbs. Another interesting fact: There are more than 1,000 windows in the mill. Some of the window panes are even made of rare purple oxidized glass.

Fungi growing on the slippery, mossy floorboards. There was a leak in the ceiling a few feet away.

The Stehli Silk Mill occupied more than one sixth of a mile in length and was about 250,000 square feet in size. That’s about 6 whole acres. I spent a few hours wondering through the entire mill earlier this week. I kind of zoomed through each floor and each room. If I had the time, I could have spent all day, maybe even more than one day, exploring this place.
