Last night, Scott and I headed out for a night in the city! After work, we drove to Washington D.C. to meet up with some friends, relax, and enjoy some great music. We started the evening at DC9, said hello to one of his good friends, and drank a chilled beer. I thought the interior of this bar was pretty sweet. Lots of old wooden frames with mirrors hung on opposite walls and neat screen-printed shades hung off of each pendant lamp.
We went to Axum for Ethiopian cuisine... A last minute decision seeing as we every other restaurant was bustling and we were in a bit of a hurry. We then met up with our friends and headed to the 9:30 Club to see Wanda Jackson perform!
The Queen of Rockabilly. Even at 74 years old, she killed it! Her personality is warm, her spirit is fun, and her performance was radiant. She performed with The Lester Kings, whom also opened the show. I can see why Elivs Presley has such a thing for this witty woman!
We heard her classics, like Fujiyama Mama, Honey Bob, some of her new songs (written with Jack Black), and she brought down the house with Whole Lotta Shakin' Going' On. We did a whole lotta shakin and dancing, too! Now I can say that I danced to a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-er live!
It's refreshing to get out of our little town and venture into a big city every now and then. I'm still a beach-loving country girl at heart and seem to always feel a little out-of-place in the city. Anyways, great times with good friends, and moving music! Loved Wanda and her fast-paced rockabilly!
Hope you're enjoying your weekend! I'm spending the rest of the day finishing up some on-going jewelry projects and Spring cleaning. Sounds like fun, right?
