my weekend

This weekend was an absolute whirlwind of events. It's 2 am Tuesday morning as I'm tying this, and I still feel like it's the weekend. I need some reccuperation time, but we all know that never happens around here!

I'd try to explain why this weekend was crazy cool and uber busy, but I'd have to type too many paragraphs. Let me just say this instead... I had 10 house guests! (9 people, me, a dog visitor, Sandi & Slater) A full house. People sleeping on the sofa-bed, cots and everything. The Dew Tour was in town this weekend and made for lots of excitement.

I just wanted to share some of the fun events that we attended and some even better memories that were created...

(Took some of the guests on a little tour of oddities that most 'tourists' never even existed in our beach town. This space rockets is off the beaten path a little and totally awesome.)

(Went to the chariot horse races and bet on 2 horses for the first time in about 5 years!)

(I bet on the pink horses during 2 races and won some extra moolah. So stoked!)

(Made craft hair-bow clips for Sandi's hair befor taking her to the Groomer's to get a summer-shave. Isn't she adorable?)

(Took my scooter to the skate park to watch the boys skate their butts off in 90+ degree weather one afternoon.)

(Went to the Dew Tour to watch the BMX finals.)

(...Stuff that I never could have even imagined would be possible on a bicycle. The Dew Tour was pretty amazing!)

(Went to an art show at Punk Rock Fish Studios and then checked out the vintage skateboard collection at the Tavern's gallery.)

I hope that everyone else had a fun-filled and fantastic weekend! I just washed 5 loads of dirty sheets, towels, bathroom rugs and clothing, swept the whole house, mopped, ran the dishwasher, and took out the trash. The house is all mine again. It was so nice to have so many friends with me for the past 4 days. Can't wait to get together with everyone again.

I'm back to the daily grind tomorrow morning. I'm hoping to consume the rest of my week with lots of work, even more job applications, some quality time with Sandi & Slater, and hopefully at least one trip to the thrift store. What are you big plans?

Rouge Evening

Last weekend, after watching the Coal Town Rounders at the Abbey Bar in Harrisburg, Kid PA put on an excellent show. I swear that they get better, and better every time I see them (which is extremely often).

These guys tore it up. Since Kid PA was the last band to play at the Rouge Evening event, the crowd was just a little tipsy by the time they began. What can you expect from the only brewery in town?

Great job satisfying my live punk music fix for the week. Found out earlier this week that Kid PA will be playing a show in Ocean City next weekend. Oh yes! Looks like I'll have a full house for a few days. Can't wait.

The Champ

That's me walking the tracks on the 'west shore' of the Susquehanna River in Harrisburg, PA last Saturday evening. I had plans to venture to New York City for the weekend to participate in the Coney Island Mermaid Parade, but plans changed a few days before departure. Kid PA, a band made of some of my charming male friends, was asked to play a show with the legendary, politically inspired, punk rock band known as Anti-Flag. I couldn't say no. I needed to support these band boys that I adore so much.

Before the guys went into the Championship to set up, we took a stroll along the railroad tracks that run beside the river. So pretty.

Really, I just wanted to show off this nice, new thrift store score. That skirt was plucked from a rack in one of the Lancaster Goodwill stores. I liked the style, color, price (only $4.50!) and print but had to take it in about 3" to make it fit me. I'm pretty sure I was the only girl at the punk show wearing a skirt, but whatever, it's my style. I paired it with a simple grey tank, a vintage brown leather belt, and flats (I didn't want my toes getting squashed while standing in the crowd).

After adventuring for a few minutes, I headed inside to watch Kid PA perform. These boys are way cooler than they actually know. I love watching them play on stage. It gives me goosebumps (& they're way good looking, so that helps, too).

It takes you directly to their website where you can listen to their music, watch silly videos, and read a little biography. At the Anti-Flag show, I handed out 50 copies of Kid PA's new EP. It features 5 songs. The kids at the show were stoked to have new music in their hands.

Sounds like a pretty rad show... and it was. It's really amazing to think that there is a venue like the Championship in the little town of Lemoyne, PA for punk rockers of all ages to enjoy great bands in a great atmosphere.

In the Woods

This weekend was great. Really, really great. I needed a little weekend away to add a new perspective to my current life. Getting away from your comfort zone can definitely do that! I told you yesterday that I'd share some detail and pictures about the beautiful places we ventured to over the weekend.

It all started on Friday. After doing some work, I drove 3 hours north. Rested for a little, did some Lancaster thrift shopping, and then hopped in the car for another 4 hour drive northwest. We ended up in Altoona, PA at a place called Aldo's. Kid PA performed with Midnight Mob (a killer punk band with a female lead singer that could rival even the best punk vocalists you can think of). Fantastic show.

The boys packed up the band equipment and Bruce and I embarked on a 5 and a half hour drive across the state to Scranton, PA. We arrived at our destination at 6:15 am. Exhausted and more than ready to crash on Michael's couch. I've never stayed up an entire night to see the sun come up before. Checked that one off of my 'to do' list.

Slept in rather late... wouldn't you after only going to bed at 6:30? Michael and Laura, our lovely hosts for the weekend, suggested we go hiking at Rickett's Glen. So glad we did. It was bea-u-ti-ful! Natural waterfalls. Lush foliage. Lots of place to run. (& some extremely rude people from South Jersey). Check out these pictures and let me know what you think:

Extremely pretty scenery, right?! Even if it was raining and muddy while we were there, it was still astonishing. If you're ever in the Scranton area with some time to kill, go check out Rickett's Glen.

Bonded with some big animals this weekend, too. Not too often I get to ride a horse. Thanks, Laura for saddling Talon and letting me take him for a spin! Michael, thanks for opening your house to us this weekend. You can come visit MD anytime you'd like.

We headed back to Central PA late Sunday afternoon, another 2 hour drive. Rested for a little and then went to see Water for Elephants at the theatre. I LOVED it. I felt bad because I kept comparing it to the book... it's not the same. Similar. Just not the same. My theatre date said he actually liked the film, too. Surprising because usually he and I have opposite tastes in movies. I bet he's excited to hear me quit talking about Water for Elephants finally.

I drove back to Maryland early Monday morning, another 3 hour drive. So much traveling in one weekend. It feels nice to be home. I've got so much going on with work and the house right now. Can't wait for the next weekend to creep closer.
