Caught by Surprise

Every now and again I get the feeling like I'm not supposed to be somewhere. Like I'm not supposed to be disturbing an old farm house that was built in 1875. Like I'm not supposed to be climbing through vines of poison ivy to take photographs of vintage wall paper. Psshhh. Thank goodness those feelings only happen every so often.

Yesterday evening, Sandi and I went to visit this old house. It's one of my favorites and sits way back a dirt lane in the country. Completely serene and the perfect place to get away for a few hours. Unless there's something slithering in your way. You see all of those vines on the back porch? There's a surprise under them.
A big, black, slithering, snake! It totally spooked me! I think that I shreeked more than once. It was about 3 feet long and discustingly sneaky. This was as close as I came to entering this house tonight. I guess I was just meant to stay outside in the hot heat yesterday. Spooky, creepy snake.
There were other little critters that I wasn't so scared of though. Check out this pretty katydid.
Sandi and I enjoyed some time lounging in the grass (but on the lookout for snakes) and watching the sunset. Pretty night on the farm with creepy crawlers. I'm going to be way more cautious on my outdoors adventures from now on.
